Terms of use

Short answer

These terms cover this website, not the work itself. The price ranges here are Bay Area market ranges from published sources, not our prices and not an offer. A free inspection or a look at your photos leads to a written quote, and any work happens only under a written contract you sign.

About these terms

These terms apply to your use of this website (the "site"), which is run by Attic WISE Inc. ("Attic WISE", "we", "us"), based in Redwood City, California. By using the site you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the site. Our privacy policy explains how we handle the information you send us.

These terms cover the website only. Work on your home is covered by the written contract described below, and if the two ever disagree, the contract wins.

What the price ranges mean

  • The estimator and the cost page show Bay Area market ranges: low and high figures collected from published sources, shown with those sources and the date we collected them. They are not Attic WISE prices, not a quote, and not an offer you can accept.
  • A range is general. Your price depends on things a website can't see: how easy the attic is to get into, what's up there now and in what state, wiring, ducts, pests, and what you decide to have done.
  • Published prices change, and sources disagree. We work to keep the ranges current, but we can't promise every figure is accurate, complete or up to date.
  • Your price is set only by the written quote you get after a free inspection, or after we've looked at your photos or video.

Asking for an inspection or an estimate

  • Sending a request doesn't create a contract and doesn't commit you or us to anything. The inspection is free, and you're free to turn down the quote.
  • The date and time you pick are a preference. The visit is set once we confirm it with you by phone, by email, or by text if you agreed to texts.
  • We may decline a request, for example when the home is outside the area we serve or the job isn't one we do.
  • An estimate from photos or video covers only what they show. Anything they don't show can change the quote. Once there's a contract, any change to its price or scope needs your written approval.
  • Please give accurate information, and only ask for work on a home you own or have the owner's permission to have worked on. If you rent, the owner has to approve the work.

Two things we don't handle

We don't work on knob-and-tube wiring, and we don't touch insulation that might be vermiculite, which can contain asbestos. If we find either, we stop and refer you to an electrician or an asbestos consultant before the job goes any further.

Any work happens under a written contract

  • We start work only after you sign a written contract. It sets out the scope, the materials, the price, the payment schedule and your right to cancel, and it governs the job.
  • Any deposit is taken only after you sign, and it is never more than 10% of the contract price or $1,000, whichever is less.
  • Every customer gets 5 business days after signing to cancel. California law gives most homeowners three.
  • Materials are covered by the manufacturer warranty. We don't add a separate promise of our own.
  • Nothing on this website changes or adds to the terms of your contract.

Information on this site is general

Articles, explanations and drawings on this site are general information about Bay Area homes. They aren't engineering, electrical, legal, tax or financial advice about your home. Building codes, utility programs and incentives change, so check with your city or utility before relying on one.

Attics can be dangerous. If you go up to look around or take photos, step only on the joists or on boards laid across them, watch for nails and wiring, and don't touch droppings, nests or old insulation that could be vermiculite. You go up at your own risk, and photos taken from the hatch are usually enough.

Using the site

Please don't:

  • send false information, or someone else's details without their permission
  • send spam or automated requests through the forms, or try to get around the limits that protect them
  • try to break into, overload or disrupt the site
  • copy large parts of the site, or scrape it in a way that burdens it
  • use the site for anything unlawful.

We may block access that breaks these rules.

Who owns what

The text, drawings, logo and design of this site belong to Attic WISE Inc. You're welcome to link to any page and to quote short passages with a link back. Please don't copy the site, its drawings or its estimator for your own use, and don't use our name or logo in a way that suggests we endorse something.

The market price figures belong to the sources we cite, and we link to each one.

Photos and video you send us stay yours. You allow us to use them to estimate, plan and record your job. We won't publish them without your written permission (see the privacy policy).

The site links to other websites, such as government agencies, manufacturers and price guides. We don't control those sites and aren't responsible for their content or their privacy practices.

The website comes as it is

We work to keep this site accurate and running, but we provide it "as is" and "as available". To the extent the law allows, we disclaim all implied warranties about the website, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement, and we don't promise that it will be uninterrupted, error-free or free of harmful code.

This section is about the website. Your rights about work on your home come from your contract and from California law.

Limits on liability

To the extent the law allows, Attic WISE isn't liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential losses that come from using the website, or from being unable to use it, including relying on a price range shown on it. For any other claim about the website itself, our total liability is limited to $100.

Nothing in these terms limits liability that the law doesn't allow to be limited, such as for fraud, gross negligence, willful misconduct, or death or personal injury caused by negligence. Nothing in these terms limits your rights under a contract with us or under California consumer protection law.

Disputes and governing law

California law governs these terms. If something goes wrong, please talk to us first; most problems can be sorted out with a phone call. If that doesn't work, disputes about the website go to the courts of San Mateo County, California, or to small claims court where the claim qualifies.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The version posted here, with its "last updated" date at the top, is the one that applies when you use the site. A change never alters a contract you've already signed.

If part of these terms doesn't hold

If a court finds any part of these terms unenforceable, the rest still applies. If we don't enforce a term right away, we haven't given up the right to enforce it later.
