Privacy policy

Short answer

We collect what you type into our forms or send us, such as your name, phone, email, address, details about your attic and any photos, so we can price, schedule and do the work. We don't sell it or share it for advertising. Texts are optional, and analytics cookies load only if you accept them.

Who we are and what this covers

Attic WISE Inc. ("Attic WISE", "we", "us") is an attic insulation company based in Redwood City, California. This policy explains what personal information we collect through this website and through the calls, emails and texts that follow from it, what we do with it, who else handles it, and the choices you have.

It covers:

  • the estimator and the inspection request on the estimate page
  • the contact form, including a request for an estimate from photos
  • whatever you email, text or tell us on the phone about a request
  • how the website itself works: server logs, browser storage and, only if you allow it, analytics.

It doesn't cover other websites we link to, such as the sources behind our price ranges. Those sites have their own policies.

What we learn if you go ahead

If you book an inspection or hire us, we also keep notes and photos of your attic, crawl space or work area, your written quote and contract, a record of the work, and payment records. You don't pay through this website.

What the website records on its own

  • How you found us. If the link you arrived by carries campaign tags (for example utm_source, or the click ID an ad adds), the site keeps them for that browser tab and sends them along with any request you make. We also record which page a form was sent from. This tells us which pages and ads bring in requests.
  • Server logs. Like any website, our hosting provider records technical details of each visit, such as IP address, browser type, the page requested and the time, to run the site and keep it secure.
  • Spam protection. To stop junk submissions we count how many requests come from each IP address. The address is kept only as a scrambled one-way code (a hash), and the counts cover just the last hour and the last day.
  • Page speed, when we switch that measurement on: how long pages take to load, with the page address, device type (phone, tablet or desktop), connection type and a random number that lasts for one browser tab. No cookies, and nothing that identifies you.
  • Analytics, only as described under Cookies and analytics.

We never ask for Social Security numbers, bank or card details, or health information. Please don't send them.

How we use it

  • To answer you, show you a price range, schedule and carry out the inspection, write your quote, do the work and follow up on it.
  • To keep the records the law requires, such as contracts, tax and payment records.
  • To run, protect and improve the website: fixing errors, stopping spam and abuse, and, if you allow analytics, seeing which pages help people.
  • To learn which pages and ads bring in requests.
  • To protect people's safety and our legal rights, and to comply with the law.

We use your contact details to talk with you about your request and any job that follows. We won't put you on a marketing email or text list without asking first. We don't make automated decisions about you, and we don't build an advertising profile of you.

Who else sees it

We don't sell your personal information. These are the people and services that handle it, and why:

  • Our own team. The people who answer your request, and the crew that comes to your home, see what they need for the visit and the job.
  • Website hosting (Vercel). Serves this website and runs its forms. If a request can't be delivered to us right away, a full copy is written to the host's server log so it isn't lost and we can recover it by hand.
  • Request and customer records. Our customer-relationship software, and a database (Supabase), where we keep track of requests and jobs.
  • Email (Google Workspace and Resend). Our mailbox runs on Google Workspace, and Resend delivers the notice of each new request to it. Photos you email us arrive there too.
  • Text messages (Twilio). Sends our own team a short alert when a request comes in, with your name, phone number, ZIP code, the visit date you asked for and the range you were shown. Texts between you and us, if you agreed to them, also go through a texting provider.
  • Google Analytics, only if you accept analytics (see below).
  • Referrals. If we find knob-and-tube wiring or insulation that might be vermiculite, we'll point you to an electrician or an asbestos consultant. We pass your details on to them only if you ask us to.
  • When the law requires it, or when we need to protect someone's safety or our legal rights.
  • If the business changes hands, our records would pass to the new owner, under this policy.

Each provider handles your information to provide its service to us. In the last 12 months we have not sold personal information, or shared it for cross-context behavioral advertising, as California law defines those terms, and we don't give it to other companies for their own marketing.

Text messages

  • Our forms have a separate text-message box that starts unticked. Texts are optional: you don't need to agree to them to get a price range, an inspection or any work.
  • If you tick it, we may text you about that request: arranging and confirming the inspection, questions about your attic, your quote and the job. We don't send marketing texts.
  • How many texts you get depends on the request. Message and data rates may apply.
  • Reply STOP to any of our texts and we'll stop texting you. Reply HELP for help, or reach us at (760) 655-5959 or info@atticwiseca.com.
  • We keep a record of when you agreed and the exact sentence you agreed to, as proof of your consent.
  • Your mobile number and your consent to texts are never sold or shared with third parties or affiliates for their marketing. Only the providers that carry our texts handle them.
  • Mobile carriers aren't liable for delayed or undelivered messages.

Whether or not you tick the box, we may call or email you about a request you sent us. That's how we answer it.

Photos of your home

  • We use photos and video you send, and photos we take during an inspection or a job, to estimate, plan and record the work.
  • We don't post photos of your home online, in ads or anywhere else public without your written permission. If you do say yes, we leave out anything that identifies the home, such as house numbers, faces and paperwork.
  • Photos taken on a phone can carry the location where they were taken. We already have your address, so this is harmless, but you can switch location tagging off before you send them if you prefer.

Cookies and analytics

This website doesn't need cookies to work. The estimator, the forms and every page work the same whether or not you accept analytics.

When we run Google Analytics, a small notice asks before it may set cookies:

  • If you accept, Google Analytics sets cookies that tell one visit from another, so we can count visitors and see which pages help people. Google receives the pages you view, an approximate location worked out from your IP address, your device and browser type, and how you arrived. We look at the totals, not at individuals.
  • If you decline, or haven't chosen yet, no analytics cookies are set. Google's tag may still send basic signals without cookies (for example, that a page was viewed), which Google uses for statistics about visitors as a group.
  • To change your mind, use "Cookie settings" at the bottom of any page, or clear this site's data in your browser. If you don't see a notice or a "Cookie settings" link, analytics isn't running at all.

Google keeps event-level analytics data for the period set in our account, at most 14 months. You can read how Google uses information from sites that use its services (opens in a new tab), or install Google's opt-out browser add-on (opens in a new tab).

We don't use advertising or remarketing cookies, social media pixels or chat widgets, and our fonts are served from our own site.

Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control. There's no agreed standard for the Do Not Track browser setting, so the site doesn't change anything when it receives one. Global Privacy Control is a recognized way to opt out of the sale and sharing of personal information in California. We don't sell or share personal information, so there is nothing for it to switch off.

How long we keep it

  • Requests and job records: as long as we need them to answer you, do the work and deal with anything that comes up afterwards. For a finished job that can be up to 10 years, which is how long California allows claims about construction work, plus anything tax and contractor-record rules require.
  • Requests that didn't turn into a job: as long as they're useful for following up or in case you come back to us. Ask, and we'll delete yours sooner.
  • Text-message consent records: while we text with you, and for 4 years after, as proof that you agreed.
  • Server logs: the short period our hosting provider keeps them.
  • Spam-protection counts: about a day.
  • Analytics: at most 14 months, as above.
  • Browser storage: until you clear it, or until you close the tab for aw-utm.

Your California privacy rights

If you live in California, the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act, gives you the right to:

  • Know what personal information we've collected about you, where it came from, why we collected it and who we've disclosed it to, and get a copy of it.
  • Delete it, except what the law requires or allows us to keep, such as contract and tax records, or what we need to finish a job.
  • Correct it if it's wrong.
  • Opt out of the sale or sharing of it. We don't sell or share personal information, so there is nothing to switch off. That's also why this site has no "Do Not Sell or Share" link.
  • Limit the use of sensitive personal information. We don't use any for purposes that would bring this right into play.
  • Be treated the same for using any of these rights. Same prices, same service.

You don't have to live in California to ask. We answer everyone the same way.

How to make a request

Email info@atticwiseca.com or call (760) 655-5959. Tell us what you'd like, and the name, email address and phone number you used with us.

  • We'll confirm that we got your request within 10 business days and answer it within 45 days. If we need more time, up to another 45 days, we'll tell you why.
  • To protect you, we check the request against the contact details we already have, for example by replying to the email address or phone number on file, before we hand over or delete anything.
  • Someone else can ask on your behalf. We'll need your signed permission, and we may ask you to confirm your identity with us directly.

Children

This website and our services are for adults arranging work on a home. We don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you think a child has sent us information, contact us and we'll delete it.

Keeping it safe

The site runs over HTTPS. Your information is held by the providers listed above, and only the people who need it to serve you can see it. Spam-protection counts keep IP addresses only in scrambled form. No system is perfectly secure, so please don't email us anything you'd want to keep inside your household, such as account numbers. If a breach affects your information, we'll tell you as California law requires.

Changes to this policy

When we change this policy, we'll post the new version here with a new "last updated" date at the top. If a change affects how we use information you've already given us, we'll point that out at the top of this page.
